Middle Schoolers on Myspace, okay or not?

There are always bulletins going around saying it's not okay for middle schoolers to be on m yspace, the young 11-13 year olds.

To what extent do you agree or dissagree?

I disagree because I think it's okay for them to be on there as long as they have private accounts, wiht only known friends as myspace friends, and having appropriate photos displayed.

I have no problem with it until a middle schooler starts getting on the slutty side.

I mean when I was on middle school I was on myspace, i don't understand why there is such a stigma on sixth through eighth graders. If they are being responsible online, what is the issue?

Myspace users have to be at least the age of 14 or over when they sign up. It says so in their terms of service agreement. Read it.

MySpace is just a tool, like the computer itself. There is nothing wrong with it at all, as long as the kid knows what they are doing, and the boundries that should be in place.

because the younger kids think they know it all and DONT keep their accounts private. there are also more and more pedophiles online that there ever were, and its harder to keep kids contained. they are naturally curious and talk to just about anyone. parents are busy working one or two jobs each, and are not able to fully monitor their kids, and the kids are wise to the parents sneaky ways of installing software. its all sad. but thats life.

I think its sad that 11 years olds were happy enough to play with barbie dolls and ride their bicycles when I was that age 13 years ago, and now because the internet exsits, for some reason thats lame and life will come crashing down if they cant text, IM, make myspace accounts, wear tons of makeup that make them look like pittiful clowns and dress like sluts. Thats what I think.

I think private accounts for only their friends would be the safe thing at that age. That's just my opinion.

I agree with you, but most middle schoolers don't know the cautions of being online. I definantly think it's ok for 11-13 year olds to have APPROPRIATE pictures and only people they know added, and a private profile. But there are still lots that go over that boundary and that's the problem. Ultimatley, I think it's okay for middle schoolers to have a myspace, if they can be reponsible enough to have one.

It really fine aving a myspace at this age if you have friends you know, maybe don't put up a picture, make your page private, don't agree to meet anyone(DUH!) and just be responsible. Also some people make their children delete their myspace and just leave them to their neopet accont and stuff but in reality that is th same thing! people give out info. can put up pictures and sinse they think "Hey, it's only neopets!" Then they aren't as careful aas they would be on myspace!

In my opinion it is ok, juat as long as the person doesn't get to into it then they will be on myspace 24/7, people should trust kids more.
