I am a school technology admin. we can see all internet traffic. the thing to consider here is even if you use a proxy, your still on the internet which comes through the school equipment. here we have most proxys blocked but we get alerts and one is hit. we have good equipment and good people though so that helps.

on top of that all internet traffic is logged, by user, computer, time and the sites visited.

we catch students all the time. after they find out we can detect proxy use they warn their freinds so proxy use dropps off substantially.
